Pokémon APIs

Pokémon data here comes from two free, keyless APIs that differ mainly in query style. PokéAPI is a REST API covering species, moves, items, types and games from every generation. GraphQL Pokemon, from Favware, answers GraphQL queries for species, moves, abilities, learnsets and type matchups. Card prices live under trading card games instead.

Choosing a Pokémon API

Is there a free Pokémon API?

Yes. PokéAPI and GraphQL Pokemon are free to use.

Which Pokémon APIs work without an API key?

PokéAPI and GraphQL Pokemon need no key or sign-up, so you can try them with a plain request.

Can I call a Pokémon API from front-end JavaScript?

PokéAPI allows cross-origin requests and needs no key, so it works straight from the browser. For the others, call them from your server so your key stays private.
